On Wednesday, March 8, leading up to the biennial state budget, Groundwork Ohio will host 400 statewide advocates for “Big Voices for Little Kids: Groundwork Ohio’s Advocacy Day” at the Ohio Statehouse. During the day of action, Groundwork Ohio will recognize state policymakers for their support and for prioritizing children and families throughout Ohio.
Advocacy Day attendees are scheduled to hold meetings with state legislators, advocating for Groundwork Ohio’s budget priorities utilizing data, research, and personal stories, illustrating the unquestionable need for all children to thrive.
Prior to the legislative meetings, a morning of learning will take place including presentations by Cynthia Osborne, Founder and Executive Director, Prenatal-to-3 Policy Impact Center and Sonia Manzano, actress, screenwriter, author, and singer who played Maria on Sesame Street. Legislative awards will be given to the following policymakers who have demonstrated their passion for supporting Ohio's children and families:
Sen. Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood) Sen. Andy Brenner (R-Delaware) Rep. Jessica Miranda (D-Forest Park) Rep. Andrea White (R-Kettering)
A legislative panel will also be held, with the following policymakers discussing their plans for ensuring Ohio's youngest have a strong foundation:
Sen. Jerry Cirino (R-Kirtland)
Rep. Jay Edwards (R-Nelsonville)
Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland)
